Mi nombre es Yassamin Ansari y soy la nueva congresista que representa al Tercer Distrito Congresional de Arizona: Phoenix, Glendale y Guadalupe.
A lo largo de mi vida, me he comprometido a luchar por las familias de nuestra comunidad, incluidos los beneficiarios de DACA, los inmigrantes, los refugiados y las familias de estatus mixto que contribuyen tanto a nuestro estado.
En el Congreso, me enorgullece haber presentado mi primera legislación: una resolución “Celebrando el legado y las contribuciones de los inmigrantes y oponiéndose a las políticas de inmigración discriminatorias”. Esta legislación se opone directamente a las dañinas Órdenes Ejecutivas y políticas de Donald Trump que buscan atacar las solicitudes legales de asilo, imponer restricciones arbitrarias y atacar injustamente a nuestras comunidades de inmigrantes.
Todos los días, los inmigrantes trabajan duro: pagan impuestos, inician negocios, sirven en nuestras Fuerzas Armadas y nos hacen más fuertes como nación. Aquí, en el Tercer Distrito de Arizona, su impacto se siente profundamente. Desde mi primer día en el Congreso, me dirigí al pleno de la Cámara de Representantes para expresar mi oposición al paquete de reglas republicanas extremas de la Cámara de Representantes, específicamente porque incluía una serie de políticas que harían la vida más difícil a las familias inmigrantes y debilitarían los valores que hacen fuerte a nuestro país.
El día de la inauguración de Donald Trump, elegí no asistir a la ocasión en Washington, D.C. En cambio, estaba en Phoenix, apoyando a mi comunidad en el desfile y festival anual del Día de Martin Luther King Jr. También organicé una mesa redonda sobre inmigración para escuchar directamente a líderes líderes escolares, superintendentes, organizaciones sin fines de lucro y sindicatos sobre cómo las políticas de inmigración de Trump afectarían nuestras escuelas, nuestra fuerza laboral y nuestra economía.
En el pleno de la Cámara de Representantes, también compartí la historia de Milagros Heredia, una soñadora de Arizona de 22 años que sobrevivió al cáncer y ahora está estudiando para convertirse en oncóloga. Su historia representa lo mejor de nuestra nación: la esperanza, la perseverancia y el deseo de contribuir a la comunidad. Pedí al Congreso que actúe para otorgar un camino a la ciudadanía y se enfrente a las políticas inhumanas de Trump.
Durante mi primer período de trabajo del distrito, me reuní con organizaciones que trabajan incansablemente para proteger a las comunidades inmigrantes. También organicé una reunión telefónica comunitaria, donde más de 14,000 arizonenses se unieron para aprender sobre sus derechos constitucionales cuando se trata de tratar con ICE.

My name is Yassamin Ansari, and I’m the new Congresswoman representing Arizona’s Third Congressional District – Phoenix, Glendale, and Guadalupe.
Throughout my lifetime, I’ve been committed to fighting for families in our community, including DACA recipients, immigrants, refugees, and mixed-status families who contribute so much to our state.
In Congress, I am proud to have introduced my very first piece of legislation– a resolution “Celebrating the Legacy and Contributions of Immigrants and Opposing Discriminatory Immigration Policies.” This legislation stands in direct opposition to the harmful Executive Orders and policies of Donald Trump that seek to attack lawful asylum claims, impose arbitrary restrictions, and unjustly target our immigrant communities.
Every day, immigrants work tirelessly– paying taxes, starting businesses, serving in our Armed Forces, and making us stronger as a nation. Here in Arizona’s Third District, their impact is felt deeply. That’s why I’ve been on the frontlines of the fight against President Trump’s un-American policies that seek to target and dehumanize immigrant families– including threats of mass deportations, dangerous attempts to end birthright citizenship, renewed efforts to fast-track deportations without due process, restrictive policies that make it harder for refugees to find safety in the U.S., and policies that would allow ICE into formally protected spaces like schools and churches.
None of the actions we’ve seen so far have worked toward securing our border or advancing meaningful immigration reform. Normalizing the policies that Donald Trump and Republicans are pushing for is unacceptable. Their point is cruelty. They would rather have an issue to run on than fix the problem in a bipartisan way.
We need to demonstrate to the American people that you can have a secure border, be pro-immigration, and have an economy that works for everyone.

On my very first day in office, I took to the House Floor to voice my opposition to the extreme House Republican rules package, specifically because it included an array of policies that would make life harder for immigrant families and undermine the very values that make our country strong.
And, on the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration, I chose not to attend the occasion in Washington, D.C. Instead, I was in Phoenix, standing with my community at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade and festival. I hosted an immigration roundtable to hear directly from school board leaders, superintendents, nonprofit organizations, and labor unions about how the Trump Administration’s immigration policies would impact our schools, workforce, and economy.
On the House Floor, I also shared the story of Milagros Heredia, a 22-year-old Arizona Dreamer who survived cancer and is now studying to become an oncologist. Her story represents the best of our nation– hope, perseverance, and the drive to give back. I urged Congress to act to provide a pathway to citizenship and stand up to Trump’s un-American policies.
During my first District Work Period, I met with organizations and advocates working tirelessly to protect immigrant communities. I visited the Florence Immigration and Refugee Project and Aliento Arizona, discussing ways we can push back against harmful executive orders and ensure that families stay together. I also hosted a Tele-Town Hall, where over 14,000 Arizonans joined to learn about their constitutional rights when it comes to dealing with ICE.
I will continue to fight to secure our border and push for meaningful immigration reform that reflects the values of our nation and for a future where every Arizonan–regardless of their immigration status – has the opportunity to thrive.
